Hello, you are not signed-in. Sign-In

This year, get your four-legged friend involved in the Walk! PAWS for the CAUSE is our way of letting your pets make an important donation and contribution to AIDS Walk 2008. We're sure you probably wanted to bring your pet anyway, and now you can do it officially!

Paws for the Cause is a great way to let your dogs make an important contribution to AIDS Walk 2008. For only $10, friendly, good-natured dogs can register to walk and raise funds. Friends and family can then donate to Paws participants – just like human walkers! Our furry friends are some of our greatest fundraisers.

Each registered dog will receive a souvenir bandana and a bag of treats. Special prizes and recognition will be awarded to the top Paws for the Cause fundraising dogs.

Please remember:

  • The AIDS Walk is a 5K (3.1 mile) event that will be attended by a large number of adults, children, and other dogs. If your pet tires easily or isn’t social, it would be best to allow them to stay home.

  • All dogs must remain on a leash at all times, and must walk with registered adult participants. Each adult can walk up to two dogs.

  • Water and treats will be available at designated rest stops along the route.

  • It is the responsibility of each dog’s owner to clean up after their pet (bags will be provided at the beginning of the event for this purpose). Trash/waste receptacles will be distributed throughout the event.

The Healing Power of Animals

Pets have an unexplained power of healing not only the mind but also ones health. We embrace the healing power of animals. It is our belief that the human/animal bond is vital to life. Those who care for a dog have better health and have a better all-around experience dealing with other relationships, human and animal alike. For example, in public settings, women are much more likely to touch others then men. With dogs, however, this gender difference vanishes. Men are just as likely as women to pet their dogs, hold them in their laps, kiss them, etc. This is one of the very few instances where men are comfortable as nurturers.

A Pet can be Important to Someone Living with HIV/AIDS

Those who care for a dog have better health, given the circumstances of their HIV status. To own and care for a pet, especially a dog, is to enjoy better physical and mental health. According to the CDC, studies show that dog owners are more physically active and report greater satisfaction with their physical fitness. They visit the doctor less often and take fewer medications for high blood pressure, sleeping difficulties, high cholesterol or heart conditions. They experience social benefits as owners and are less likely to report feeling lonely. The degree of person-pet bonding is significant. For a single person closely bonded with their dog, the benefits are even more marked.
